The Clovis Area Transit System (CATS) is the public transportation service
for the Clovis area. Through a cooperative effort, the City of Clovis,
NM Public Transportation Programs Bureau, NM Department of Labor and NM
Department of Human Services fund the delivery of services within the
city limits.
CATS provides curb to curb service, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.
- 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Reservations are requested
a minimum of 1 day in advance, but should be made as early as possible
to ensure the time requested can be granted. The passenger's out-of-pocket
fare is 50¢ per trip with the above mentioned agencies funding the
balance of the cost. Service is accessible to disabled persons. At the
time the reservation is made the clerk should be made aware of the type
of assistance that is required. At the present time CATS does not have
fixed route service nor fixed bus stops. All service is demand response
and reservations must be booked in advance.
CATS operates on a $450,000 annual budget, of which fares will account
for approximately $34,000. Present staff includes the director, administrative
assistant, transit secretary, senior dispatcher, mechanic, and 8 drivers.
The fleet consists of 11 vehicles, both 15 passenger vans and midsize
transit buses. Annually CATS provides an average of 67,000 trips and travel
160,000 miles within the city of Clovis.
Plans are underway to build a transit facility to house the system and
room for future expansion.
