Information Session: Regional Behavioral Health Center

CLOVIS, New Mexico — Officials from Curry County, De Baca County, Quay County, Roosevelt County, Union County, City of Clovis, City of Portales, Village of Fort Sumner, along with representatives from Clovis Community College and Eastern New Mexico University, will share details and answer questions about the planned Regional Crisis Care Center in Clovis. The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Clovis Civic Center, 801 Schepps Boulevard.

The state-of-the-art center will be designed to provide immediate support and intervention for individuals facing mental health crises and will be able to serve as many as 50 area residents at a time, avoiding a trip to Albuquerque, Amarillo, Lubbock, or Las Cruces. The state legislature has allocated $10 million and an 18-acre site has been secured.

“Getting care close to home makes financial sense and also medical sense because having friends and family nearby for support improves outcomes,” said James Corbett, JD, MDiv, a longtime behavioral health advocate and principal with Initium Health, the Denver health care consulting firm that’s supporting the project.

Joining Corbett at the meeting will be Brian Ferrans, who advises courts and emergency responders in Colorado on serving people with mental health and substance use issues; Clovis Mayor Mike Morris; and Portales Police Chief Christopher D. Williams.

It isn’t necessary to RSVP but here is the link to do so.
