CLOVIS MAYOR PRO TEM LEN VOHS VOICES SUPPORT/ACTION IN “NO SHAVE NOVEMBER” MENS’ CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

No Shave November began in 2003 and has evolved into a fun way for guys to raise funds to support cancer research, particularly in relation to prostate and testicular cancer.   According to the American Cancer Society, one in six men in their lifetime could be diagnosed with prostate cancer and there are 238,590 new cases of prostate cancer a year in the United States.

No Shave November rules require the growth of an entire beard and at the end of November you shave a unique mustache.   The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.

Mayor Pro Tem Len Vohs announced Wednesday that he was participating in No Shave November and would not be shaving for the entire month.   “My target is to raise at least $1,500 this month to support the work of the American Cancer Society in relation to prostate cancer by growing my beard,” advised Mayor Pro Tem Vohs, Wednesday.  “At the end of the month, if I raise more than $1,500.00, I intend to shave if all off, which will be the first time I have done that in more than a decade.  I would like to encourage men to join in, and donate the money they usually spend on shaving and grooming for the month to our local chapter of the American Cancer Society, to educate themselves about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle to end cancer,” he advised.
