The Public Works Department manages street maintenance and repairs, city fleet, traffic systems, wastewater collection and treatment, sanitation, and the landfill.
Street Maintenance maintains all city streets and alley surfaces (filling potholes, chip seal and slurry seal), drainage channels and retention ponds, and right of way cleaning. They also perform small scale paving projects on city properties.
Fleet Maintenance maintains all of the city’s vehicles, heavy and light equipment.
Traffic System Maintenance takes care of the city’s traffic lights, control systems, striping, and markings.
Wastewater Collection and Treatment maintains the city sewer lines from alleys to the treatment plant. There are about 160 miles of city sewer lines. The treatment plant treats 3 million gallons of waste water per day and the treated waste water meets all the EPA and State standards.
Sanitation collects solid waste deposited into the dumpsters and poly-carts; these total over 5000 pieces at least twice a week.
