CITY OF CLOVIS ENCOURAGES PUBLIC TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS REGARDING SEASONAL MOSQUITOES
The City of Clovis has received several complaints regarding mosquitoes in the area community over the past few days. City of Clovis Vector Control continues to treat for mosquitoes each evening and has treated more than three hundred sites and ten square miles in the past two weeks.
“The recent rain event created standing water in the area which, along with undergrowth and weeds, creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” advised Mr. Joe Thomas, City Manager, Thursday. “The City of Clovis Vector Control is continuing to spray for mosquitoes in the evening hours when the wind is blowing less than 10 MPH. We would like to encourage the public to address areas on their properties that have standing water, undergrowth or weeds.”
The American Mosquito Control Association (ACMA) reminds the public to practice the “Three D’s” of mosquito prevention – Drain, Dress and Defend:
Drain: Remove standing water on your property which can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes
Dress: Wear long sleeves, long pants and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
Defend: Properly apply a CDC recommended repellent such as DEET, picardin, IR 3535 or oil of lemon-eucalyptus.
The public can visit the AMCA website online for more information at www.mosquito.org. For questions or concerns regarding mosquitoes in your neighborhood, please call (575) 769-7870.
