City of Clovis Receives Grant Funding to Create Summer Youth Program

The City of Clovis has received grant funding from the Outdoor Equity Fund program, sponsored by the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division, in the amount of $20,000.00 to create a summer youth program in Clovis. Beginning in the summer of 2022, the City of Clovis will host an eight-week summer program available to Clovis youth from kindergarten through 5th grade focused on environmental education. The City will combine the grant funding, City resources and amenities, community support, private donations, and a small fee from participants to fund the program for up to 25 children in Clovis. More details will be released about the summer youth program in 2022.

“We would like to thank the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division for supporting the creation of this program,” remarked Commission Fidel Madrid, who also serves as the Chairman of the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Committee, “and for believing in the importance of environmental education for Clovis’ youth.”

Assistant City Manager Claire Burroughes also commented on the plans for the program. “The summer youth program will combine education and fun to engage Clovis’ children in the environment. We look forward to creating this program in the coming months to better serve local youth and to provide a cost-effective option for summer child care.”
