Released 1:14p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022
The City of Clovis is pleased to announce that it has received two awards from the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) to complete projects in Clovis.
The first grant award is from NMDOT’s Recreational Trails Program (RTP) in the amount of $256,320.00 to complete preliminary engineering work to plan and design a five-mile walking and biking trail along the Liebelt Drainage Channel. The trail will connect Bob Spencer Park, Greene Acres Park, Main Street, and Hillcrest Park through new and existing sidewalk and trail systems. The project will provide a safe, reliable, and affordable transportation system throughout Clovis.
The second grant award is from NMDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) in the amount of $260,844.42 to complete Phase 5 out of 6 for the City of Clovis’ Main Street Streetscape Project. The project will replace deteriorated sidewalks on Main Street from Grand Street to 2nd Street with level and ADA-accessible stamped concrete sidewalks. This project will further enhance the appearance and accessibility of Clovis’ downtown area.
“We are thrilled to have received funding for these two projects and to continue our partnership with the New Mexico Department of Transportation,” remarked City Manager Justin Howalt. “Both state and federal grants provide funding for specific projects, including areas like infrastructure, roads, water, quality of life, and outdoor recreation. Our grants team actively works with these programs to fund various projects throughout the City of Clovis, and we look forward to moving these two projects forward.”
