City of Clovis to Adopt New Sign Code Ordinance

City of Clovis to Adopt New Sign Code Ordinance

On December 2, 2020, the Planning & Zoning Commission met in a study session to discuss proposed changes regarding the City of Clovis Sign Code.  Since the City’s adoption of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) in 2019, staff have been working to revise the 1988 sign code to comply with the Supreme Court’s prohibition of sign content regulation contained in Reed v. Town of Gilbert, 577 U.S. 155. A copy of the draft sign code may be found here.

The purpose of the sign code is to regulate signs within the City, in regards to design, location, size, and purpose, to ensure the protection of property values, the character of the various neighborhoods, and the aesthetic value of the City, while encouraging economic development. The city is reaching out to area businesses and the public to submit any initial recommended changes by December 31, 2020, for consideration by the Planning & Zoning Commission.
