Clovis Residents to Vote on City of Clovis’ Adoption of Senate Bill 49 During the November 2nd Curry County Election

During the 2021 Legislative Session, the New Mexico State Legislature adopted Senate Bill 49, which changes the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) to allow municipalities with a population over 35,000 to utilize their municipal funding for retail in their communities. Currently LEDA allows municipalities, like the City of Clovis, to use a percentage of funding from gross receipts tax (GRT) to incentivize industry, whereas Senate Bill 49 will allow local governments to use a portion of this funding to also incentivize new and existing retail

Clovis residents will vote on the City of Clovis’ adoption of Senate Bill 49 during the November 2, 2021, Curry County Regular Local Election, where the following question will appear:

“Shall the City of Clovis allow retail businesses to constitute a qualifying entity for purposes of furthering or implementing economic development plans and providing public support for projects as defined in the Local Economic Development Act.”

Early voting for the Curry County Regular Local Election begins on October 5, 2021, at the Curry County Clerk’s Office and October 16, 2021, at the North Plains Mall. Election day will be held on November 2, 2021 at several polling locations throughout the community.
