Kangaroos Naming Contest

The City of Clovis and the Hillcrest Park Zoo have organized a contest for individuals and businesses to bid for the naming rights of the Hillcrest Park Zoo’s newest addition, two baby male and female red kangaroos.

The largest marsupial, the red kangaroo is probably one of the best known of Australia’s native animals, living in small groups in the dry central areas. An adult male stands over 5 ft 10 in and can weigh up to 198 lb. He can tower over a tall person! Total length of the head and body averages about 3.8 ft with an average tail length of about 2.9 ft. Females are much smaller, with an average weight of about 58 lb.

The bidding period will close at 4:00p.m., Friday, April, 28 2023, after which the highest bidder will be notified. All proceeds of the contest will benefit the Hillcrest Park Zoo.

Contest Rules

Kangaroo naming bids will only be taken via an online form available at https://www.cityofclovis.org/kangaroo/

Bids will be taken between 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023, until 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023.

The naming rights to both Kangaroos will be awarded to the HIGHEST BIDDER at the time of the bid closing.

TWO names must be provided for the male & female Kangaroo.

Payment is due to the City of Clovis no later than one week after the bid closing, which is 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023.

Bidders have the right to withdraw their bid at any time during the bid period or if the City of Clovis refuses the proposed name.

All proceeds of the contest will benefit the Hillcrest Park Zoo.

The proposed names must be provided to the City of Clovis at the time of the bid.

The City of Clovis reserves the right to refuse/reject any name deemed inappropriate.

Acronyms will not be accepted.
